How To Care For Children With Allergies

Many children encounter what is referred to as “Pediatric Allergy,” simply children’s allergies. The causes of children’s allergies are numerous. While some allergies are hereditary, others are triggered by dust, smoke, food seasonings, and certain kinds of food. As a parent, you must always look out for any allergy your child may have and provide the proper care needed at all times.

What are the Symptoms of an Allergy?

Different allergies come with different symptoms. You must always be on the lookout and quickly recognize your child’s unusual reaction after eating something or being somewhere.

Here are some universal symptoms of an allergy. They include:

  • Symptoms in the Respiratory System: A major sign of allergy is breathing problems. Others include the presence of mucus, sinusitis, unexplained and frequent cough, and severe cold.
  • Symptoms in the Skin: The major symptom is the presence of a rash on the face, neck, elbow, or other parts of the body. The victim’s faces may also seem flushed as they struggle to breathe. The rash isn’t forever, as it clears up after medication.
  • Gastrointestinal symptoms: They include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and mucus in the stool. Some people also end up bloated or have a rash and swelling around the lips.

While it is not certain whether parents can prevent their child from forming allergies right from the womb, it is recommended that the mother eats a balanced diet with a lot of fruits and vegetables when pregnant. It is also best to avoid eating foods that may cause allergic reactions, such as seafood, cow’s milk, peanuts, eggs, chocolate, wheat flour, etc.

Also, when your child was born, feed them with breast milk until about 12 months. It is important to not feed your baby cow milk until they age. Also, clean your surroundings frequently to ensure they are free of dirt, dust, and smoke.

What to do when your child has an allergy reaction

Most parents go straight to panic mode when faced with an allergic reaction. While this is reasonable given the circumstances, it is best to remain calm and collected to give your child proper care.

The first thing is to take the child to the hospital as soon as possible. Once discovered that it is an allergy, it is best to gather important information like what allergy they are suffering from and how best to avoid an episode. Also, invest in getting EpiPens as they are very useful during an allergic reaction.

Allergies in children are something that every parent must not overlook. Even if it doesn’t seem serious, take your child to the hospital and get a proper diagnosis.
